Three official notes from Washington, within the last three days, are being read by Albanian citizens as a strong message to the political elite that has degraded the country for three decades.
After not recognizing the winner and ignoring the loser in the May 11 elections, as well as banning visas for officials collaborating with the censorship, grade No. 3 comes like a thunderbolt on the scoundrels who have stinked up the country through state capture and the pollution of hope.
The US Embassy's distribution of Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau's speech at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is a specific signal for Albania. No other US embassy in the region has distributed that speech. This makes the message even more significant.
Landau speaks clearly: The US will no longer cooperate with elites who claim extraordinary transformation or who seek to restore fabricated histories. America is willing to cooperate only with pragmatic leaders committed to state-building and constitutional order. Endless politics, without historical humility, is an enemy of democracy.
The message is clear, but it is not said by names. Because the names are known: Edi Rama and Sali Berisha. Both have become synonymous with unacceptable political extremes.
Rama, who has built an autocratic regime under the guise of renaissance, and Berisha, who has destroyed every rule of law for decades. Both have made the rotation of bargains and criminal immunity at the expense of citizens. Both are symbols of the democratic facade that has produced a mafia reality.
In this climate of tension, the third note from Washington is different from the previous ones. It is no longer a criticism. It is a statement of principles and values. A warning to move away from the Sorosian project that has held Albania hostage, and to finally separate the future from the past.
If the mafia clans that control politics don't reflect, Note No. 4 may not just be diplomatic. It may be the blow that shatters the foundations of this rotten transition.
Faced with this reality, the Albanian people have only one path: to choose between a European future and a past that has only produced regression. The time of the two sheikhs is over. The long silence of the people must turn into a voice. True democracy cannot come without the political and criminal end of the Rama-Berisha duo./ Pamphlet
