US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, have returned to Israel, a US embassy spokesman said.
They arrived in the region to oversee the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which they helped broker, and are expected to meet with members of Benjamin Netanyahu's government.
US Vice President JD Vance said yesterday that he may also visit Israel in the coming days. "We're trying to find a way," he told reporters, saying the administration wants to "go and see how things are going."
Regarding the ceasefire, he said that "there will be some moments of tension." Israeli media reported that Vance will meet with Netanyahu.
In a statement, the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) said that "several" individuals crossed the yellow line - from where the Israeli army agreed to withdraw, "posing an immediate threat" to soldiers operating in an area north of Gaza.
Israel carried out airstrikes on dozens of Hamas targets in Gaza. Hospital sources said 44 people were killed.
The military said the attacks were in retaliation for the killing of two Israeli soldiers near Rafah. Both sides accused each other of violating a ceasefire agreement.
