While the entire world is "watching" the White House for information regarding the discussions that will take place between the US and Ukraine on the terms of a peace with Russia, on the front lines the war still continues.
Fighting has erupted in Ukraine since Russia launched a full-scale invasion in February 2022. Over the past year, Russian forces have slowly expanded the amount of territory they control, mainly in eastern Ukraine, and have continued their recent airstrikes on Kiev and other key Ukrainian cities.
But how does the situation look on the ground?
-In eastern Ukraine, Russia's war machine has moved mile after mile across the vast plains of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, also known as Donbas, surrounding and overrunning villages and towns.
-It has attempted to gain full control of the area along with two other regions to the west, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.
-Further north, Russia has been pushing towards Kupyansk in the eastern Kharkiv region, as part of its efforts to capture all of Luhansk and encircle northern Donetsk.
Meanwhile, Russia has continued to bomb Ukrainian cities, launching 574 drones and 40 missiles on the night of August 20. It has also targeted Ukraine's railway infrastructure with numerous attacks in recent months.
