A mafia assassination has shocked Colombia, where two 20-year-old women were shot dead in the early hours of Sunday morning in the city of Girón, in the north of the country.
According to Colombian media and police sources cited by the newspaper "El Tiempo", the victims are Karen Valentina Vega Peralta and her friend Nicole Cristina Amaya Díaz.
Authorities suspect that the main target of the assassination was Karen Valentina Vega Peralta, who worked as a webcam model and nurse, while reports speak of her connection to a member of the criminal drug trafficking organization "Los del Sur".
According to preliminary investigations, the two girls were returning from a night out when they were chased by masked men on a motorbike. Moments later, the perpetrators ambushed them and opened fire on them on the street.

Peralta was shot in the shoulder and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, her friend Nicole Cristina Amaya Díaz was rushed to the hospital with serious gunshot wounds, but did not survive her injuries.
Colombian police believe that Nicole Díaz may have been an accidental victim, caught in the middle of the assassination attempt that had Peralta as its main target.
Following the incident, authorities have set up a special investigative group to identify and arrest the perpetrators, while the main lead is related to clashes between criminal drug trafficking groups in the area.
Investigators are also verifying the main victim's contacts and connections with the "Los del Sur" organization, a well-known criminal group that operates in drug trafficking in Colombia.
