Russia's Foreign Ministry has called on foreign countries to consider withdrawing their diplomats from Kiev ahead of May 9, due to the risk of military escalation.
According to a statement by the ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, Moscow has sent a diplomatic note to foreign missions, mentioning possible threats from the Ukrainian side and the risk of an attack on Moscow during the Victory Day celebrations.
The document states that authorities and international organizations should exercise "maximum caution" and ensure the timely departure of diplomatic personnel and citizens from Kiev, referring to the possibility of a military escalation and a response by the Russian armed forces.
Zakharova said Moscow's stance was not aggressive, but a reaction to threats that she said were coming from Ukraine. She also criticized several European countries, accusing them of supporting the Ukrainian side.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had stated that there could be drone attacks during the celebrations in Moscow.
On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that all necessary security measures will be taken for the May 9 activities and warned that any attack will be followed by a strong military response.
