In a possible sign of discontent among Ukraine's European allies, Italy may delay approval for continued supplies to Kiev.
According to a report by the Reuters news agency, sources close to the matter say the green light could be held until next year. The suspension comes at a time when tensions are rising within Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's right-wing coalition government over support for Ukraine.
Meloni has pledged to help Ukraine resist Russian aggression to the end, but her deputy Matteo Salvini, leader of the League party, has questioned her reasoning.
The decree on aid to Ukraine was on the agenda of a meeting tomorrow, but was dropped because the agenda was already too busy, the sources said.
During the full-scale invasion of Russia, the Italian government sent 12 military aid packages. The decree system, which expires at the end of the year, allows the government to act without parliamentary approval for each new round of supplies.
In his criticism of aid to Ukraine, Salvini referred to the corruption scandal that has rocked Volodymyr Zelensky's administration in recent weeks.
