An afternoon of terror was recorded on Monday on the A14 Bologna-Taranto motorway, in central Italy, where an armed group attempted to rob two armored vans transporting cash. The incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m., between the Loreto-Porto Recanati (Ancona) and Civitanova Marche (Macerata) toll booths.
According to preliminary investigations, the bandits, armed with automatic weapons and explosives, had carefully prepared the plan: they threw three-pointed nails into the asphalt, shot at the tires of a pickup truck and tried to use it to block the road. At the same time, gunshots were heard and an explosion caused great panic among drivers.
However, the robbery attempt failed. The immediate reaction of the security guards and the intervention of the traffic police foiled the criminal group's plan. No one was injured and the vans were able to drive away to safety.
After the collision, the perpetrators fled through the fields, while a burnt-out car, suspected of being used in the attack, was found in Porto Potenza Picena.
Macerata police immediately activated their anti-robbery plan, setting up checkpoints throughout the province and analyzing highway security camera footage. Investigators suspect the group may be linked to other similar robberies in central Italy.
Due to the incident, the A14 motorway was closed in both directions, causing long queues of vehicles – up to 8 km towards Pescara and 2 km towards Ancona. Traffic remained paralyzed for several hours. /TG Com
