A pistol and eight bullets were found buried in the courtyard of the 5th pavilion of Korydallos prison in Greece.

This event has caused an urgent reaction from the authorities, as this ward holds some of the most notorious convicts in the criminal world, including Albanian Klodian Lekocaj, known as the head of the "prison mafia".

It is learned that Lekocaj frequents the same yard during airing hours. Turkish prisoners are also held in the same pavilion, who are suspected of being involved in the murder.

Investigators suspect that the weapon could have been prepared for an escape attempt, for a possible attack on other prisoners, or for taking prison employees hostage.

Investigations have been expanded to all cells in the ward, while security camera footage and records of recent visits are being analyzed.

Klodian Lekocaj recently found himself at the center of the Greek authorities' attention again after he managed to take two prison guards hostage with a knife, taking their keys, radios, and cell phones.

At the same time, he began moving from one wing of the prison to the other with a group of seven Egyptians, to reach Ward 3, while searching for a compatriot to kill.

Who is Klodian Lekocaj?

48-year-old Klodian Lekocaj is known to Greek authorities, as he has been suspected for years of involvement in the most serious criminal activities such as ordering murders, kidnappings and drug trafficking.

Lekocaj has been involved in many criminal events in Greece, including contract killings, assassinations, injuries and spectacular prison escapes. He has been linked to other people with serious criminal records, including Albanians and other foreign nationals. Some of the events where his name has come up are the murder of a Greek lawyer, the injury of customers in a bar in Mikrolimano, attempted armed robbery and murder in the Metaxurgios area. He was last arrested in November 2014.

In recent years, Greek police have included his name in several other serious files, including ordered assassinations of Albanians and fines against Greek businessmen. Despite his claims in the media that he is “innocent” and “used”, the evidence and wiretaps collected by the authorities speak of a figure with great influence in the underworld, inside and outside prisons.

Klodian Lekocaj's name has also been implicated as the person who gave the order for the execution of Kreshnik Çerçizaj and Armando Organja in Athens and Edmond Papë in Tirana.
