Edgar Morin, one of the most renowned French intellectuals and an important figure in contemporary thought, has passed away at the age of 104.

The news was confirmed by his wife, Sabah Abouessalam Morin, who praised the extraordinary contribution of the French philosopher and scholar, emphasizing that he remained active and committed to global issues until the last days of his life.

"He remained connected to the world and to people until his last days. The void he leaves behind is great, but his thought and courage will continue to guide us," she said.

Born in Paris in 1921, to a Jewish family of Greek origin, Morin built a long academic and intellectual career. Although initially trained as a sociologist, he constantly expanded the scope of his research, uniting philosophy, anthropology, psychology and biology in the analysis of human nature.

Morin himself preferred to be called a "humanologist," a term that reflected his interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and society.

In addition to his academic work, he also left his mark on the history of documentary cinema. The film "Chronique d'un été", made in 1961 with Jean Rouch, is considered a fundamental work of the style known as "cinéma vérité".

Over the decades, Morin stood out as a critical and independent voice in public debate, addressing topics such as globalization, the climate crisis, nationalism, pandemics, and the challenges of modern societies.

For many scholars and academics, Edgar Morin remains one of the most influential thinkers of modern Europe, while his works and ideas continue to serve as a reference for entire generations of researchers and intellectuals.
