Tensions between Iran and the United States have returned to the spotlight, after Tehran accused Washington of violating the ceasefire reached on June 18.
In an official statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that the airstrikes carried out by the US the day before constitute a "clear violation" of the memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
"The behavior of the United States shows once again that this regime does not adhere to its commitments and that breaking promises is part of its nature," the Iranian authorities said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that US Navy and Air Force aircraft struck 10 Iranian military targets in and near the Strait of Hormuz. According to the US military, the operation came in response to an Iranian attack on a merchant ship sailing in that strategic area.
Following the US bombings, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had retaliated by launching missiles and drones at US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait.
At the conclusion of its statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry reiterated that the country will continue to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of any military action it considers aggression.
