Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will not travel to New York for a United Nations Security Council meeting due to a US visa issue, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said.
Araghchi was invited to attend a meeting initiated by China in New York. The open session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), scheduled for Tuesday, aims to discuss maintaining international peace and security, according to the UNSC calendar.
Asked last week about a possible visit by Araghchi to New York, the US State Department told CNN that all visa applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the requirements of the Immigration and Nationality Act and other applicable laws.
He added that visa data is confidential and the details of individual visa cases cannot be discussed.
