Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene his security cabinet this evening, for the first time since reports of a developing deal between the United States and Iran, which according to American media is causing concern and strong criticism in Israel.
According to CNN, Israeli officials have privately called the potential deal a "bad idea," arguing that it does not address Israel's core concerns about Iran's nuclear program and Tehran's stockpiles of enriched uranium.
Although Netanyahu has avoided public criticism of US President Donald Trump, two Israeli sources told CNN that in private discussions he has acknowledged that Israel's influence over Washington's decision-making and negotiations with Iran is limited.
According to Israeli officials, the agreement currently being discussed leaves unresolved issues that Israel considers essential to its security.
At the same time, Iran is seeking to strengthen the ceasefire in Lebanon, while Hezbollah has intensified daily drone attacks on Israeli troops and communities near the northern border.
Netanyahu is facing increasing pressure from both the opposition and his allies in the ruling coalition.
Former Israeli army chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot, who heads a political force aiming to replace Netanyahu after the upcoming elections, described the situation as "an imposed ceasefire, under conditions unfavorable to Israel, that endangers the residents of the north and Israeli soldiers."
Meanwhile, far-right ministers Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich have called for a tougher military response.
Ben Gvir called on Netanyahu to confront Trump and "make it clear to him that the state of Israel cannot tolerate this."
On the other hand, Smotrich stated that "a strategic threat is not faced with defense alone, but by changing the rules and the balance."
"For every explosive drone, 10 buildings in Beirut should collapse," he said.
Facing growing criticism, Netanyahu released a video message on Monday declaring that the Israeli military would intensify attacks in Lebanon, after a day of multiple drone attacks by Hezbollah.
"We must increase the strikes, we must increase the intensity. We will strike them with determination," Netanyahu declared.
