New York City Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdami said he is "ready, no matter what" for his meeting with Donald Trump at the White House tomorrow, assuring that he looks forward to talking to the president about the "cost of living."
"This is not a relationship with a single person. This is a relationship between the city of New York and the White House," he assured during a press conference, adding that his "interests" "go beyond any specific person."
Zoran Mamdani is a "sworn" opponent of Donald Trump, whom he accuses, among other things, of mainly protecting the wealthiest Americans, while he was elected on promises related to purchasing power.
The president, for his part, has not stopped calling this self-proclaimed socialist a "communist," threatening to "freeze" federal funding for the city.
However, some relief seems to be happening in recent days: the meeting was organized at the request of the new mayor and Donald Trump appeared positive from the beginning, even assuring, a few days ago, that he wants "everything to go well in New York."
"I met many New Yorkers who voted for President Trump and they told me they did so because of the cost of living crisis," the Democratic candidate also said.
"I am prepared to make it clear to President Trump that I will work with him on any program that will benefit New Yorkers. If a program harms New Yorkers, I will be the first to say so."
