Polls show declining support for the war and Putin, but according to The Moscow Times, most Russians are more focused on everyday life than on the front.
Recent polls in Russia show declining support for the war in Ukraine and a growing interest in peace negotiations. However, according to an analysis by The Moscow Times, this data does not necessarily indicate political change, but rather the fact that many Russians are focused on everyday problems.
A Levada Center poll found that about 18% of Russians do not follow the war at all, while many others pay little attention to military developments.
According to the newspaper, citizens' discussions focus more on inflation, home loans, vacations, high prices, slow internet and online shopping than on the war or the September parliamentary elections.
In Russian cities, people talk about the universities their children will enroll in, tourist destinations, and prices in restaurants and shopping malls. Meanwhile, the rising cost of living and the difficulty of buying housing remain major concerns.
"The Moscow Times" writes that most Russians are trying to maintain a "normal and comfortable" life, even in conditions of war and international isolation.
According to the analysis, this does not necessarily mean that they are against Putin or the war, but that for citizens living in authoritarian systems, the priority remains ordinary daily problems and not global politics.
