The Kremlin has hit energy facilities and civilian infrastructure in recent attacks in Ukraine, while Kiev has targeted Russia's oil refineries.
Ukraine has once again managed to hit Russia's economy during the war, according to the press service of the special forces. The latest attack hit the Saratov oil refinery. It is considered one of the oldest oil processing facilities in Russia and is part of Rosneft. The facility's crude oil refining capacity was 7.2 million tons in 2020 and 4.8 million tons in 2023. The facility is involved in the fuel supply of the Russian armed forces.
The extent of the impact of the latest attacks on Russia's economy remains unclear. However, Kiev has long relied on targeted attacks on Putin's energy infrastructure in the Ukraine war. The same facility was also targeted by Ukrainian special forces on September 16.
Meanwhile, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian energy facilities and civilian infrastructure with over 300 explosive devices and 37 missiles during the war in Ukraine on the night of October 15-16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced. He wrote on X: "Last night, attacks were carried out on our population, our energy sector and our civilian infrastructure."
