Despite criticism, mockery on social media, including at European summits, Trump repeated his claim that he helped end eight conflicts since the start of his second term in January.
During his meeting with Asian leaders, where he co-signed a peace agreement between the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand, Trump declared that he is closing a peace agreement every month.
"On average we are doing one a month. There is only one left, although I heard that Pakistan and Afghanistan have started work. But I will solve this very soon ," he said.
Pakistan and Afghanistan have had border skirmishes recently, but agreed to a second ceasefire last week during talks brokered by Qatar and Turkey.
While the US president, who has coveted the Nobel Peace Prize, certainly contributed to brokering agreements between former enemies, his role in securing ceasefires in some of the other conflicts he has boasted of ending has been disputed by some of the countries involved.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly in September, Trump said he had “ended seven wars, and in all cases, they were raging, with thousands of people killed. That includes Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, Congo and Rwanda, a brutal and violent war that was, Pakistan-India, Israel-Iran, Egypt-Ethiopia and Armenia-Azerbaijan.”
He has since helped secure a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, bringing the number of peace deals to eight, yet has made no progress in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, which he once said he would end in a day.
