Iran denied on Monday that it had agreed to allow the return of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors, contradicting statements by US officials after talks in Switzerland.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran's cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog would continue "according to current procedures" and in line with the country's obligations under defense agreements, parliamentary resolutions and Supreme National Security Council decisions.
"Iran has not undertaken any new commitments ," Baghaei stressed, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
The Iranian statements come in response to US Vice President JD Vance, who a day earlier in Switzerland said that Iran had agreed to accept IAEA inspectors, describing this as "perhaps the most exciting development" for the US.
According to IRNA, during the 18 hours of talks in Switzerland, Iran did not negotiate the nuclear issue and did not accept any new obligations. Any visits to damaged nuclear sites or agreements regarding enriched uranium stocks will depend on a specific mechanism to be determined in a final agreement, after the 60-day negotiations foreseen in the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran.
Recall that last summer the Iranian Parliament passed a law suspending cooperation with the IAEA and inspections in the country.
