A video of US President Donald Trump falling asleep during a meeting on the coal industry in the Oval Office of the White House is circulating widely on social media.
For a politician who won the presidential election by frequently labeling his opponent Joe Biden as “Sleepy Joe,” the footage is an unpleasant blow to his public image. On social media, users have begun calling Trump similar nicknames, such as “Sleepy Trump” or “Commander in Sleep.”
The video was recorded on June 4. Trump was listening to a series of speeches while sitting at his desk in the Oval Office. At some points, his eyelids become noticeably heavy and his head tilts to the side, giving the impression that he is falling asleep.

It's not the first time the US president has faced such accusations. Just a day earlier, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during a congressional hearing, denied claims that Trump had ever slept during official activities.
On the contrary, Rubio humorously stated that "That man doesn't sleep. And that's a problem, because he calls me at two in the morning and then again at five in the morning."
Debate about the president's health
The event has reignited public discussions about the physical condition and energy of the 80-year-old president.
American comedian Seth Meyers dedicated a segment of his satirical show to the episode. Commenting on Rubio's statement, he said: "We believe it. That's why he sleeps during the day."
Meyers went on to joke that Trump is like a raccoon that sleeps during the day after staying up all night scavenging for scraps. According to him, the president might be looking for a Big Mac at night, while the rest of the time he posts AI-generated images of himself as Jesus, on Mount Rushmore, or riding a horse with George Washington.
Seven similar episodes in 2026 for Trump
According to reports and videos that have circulated throughout the year, Trump has been filmed appearing sleepy or with his eyes closed on at least seven different occasions.
One of them occurred in March at Arlington National Cemetery during a Memorial Day ceremony while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was giving a speech. A video showed Trump with his eyes closed for about 30 seconds.
On another occasion, during a several-hour cabinet meeting, cameras filmed him with his eyes closed for a long period.
Trump then responded by stating: "I was bored, not asleep."
Also in March, he was rumored to have fallen asleep during a security meeting in Memphis, Tennessee. The White House denied the claims, explaining that the president was simply "turning his eyes off . "
The irony of Hunter Biden
Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, also joined the debate, recalling Trump's constant mockery of his father.
In an ironic comment on social media, he wrote "See? I told you it's a clone. They keep forgetting to charge its battery."
This comment was widely shared online and became part of the wave of satirical reactions that followed the video's release.
