Hezbollah attacked a military base in Israel on Friday, marking the first time the Iran-backed militant group has publicly claimed responsibility for a cross-border attack since a delicate ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon was ordered in mid-April.
In a statement, Hezbollah said they targeted a military base south of the city of Nahariya with "a barrage of advanced rockets" on Friday afternoon.
Earlier on Friday, the Israeli Air Force intercepted a rocket launch after a number of launches were detected heading towards Israeli territory, according to the Israeli military.
"Other launches fell in open areas. No injuries were reported," the army said in a statement, accusing Hezbollah of another ceasefire violation.
The Israeli military has said several times that Hezbollah shells have fallen in northern Israel, after the US announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon that will take effect at midnight local time on April 17.
Both Israel and Hezbollah have accused each other of violating the terms of the ceasefire, which was extended by three weeks at the end of April.
