Greece appears to be ready to announce a "blockade" on social media use for children under 15.

According to a senior government source cited by Reuters, the neighboring country is "very close" to announcing the ban.

It should be noted that last September, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during an event on the theme “Protecting Children in the Digital Age”, within the framework of the High-Level Week of the 80th UN General Assembly, referred to the need for global action to protect children from the uncontrolled use of social media. At that time, the Prime Minister stressed that Greece is ready to consider even banning its use at certain ages.

Spain announced today that it plans to ban social media for people under 16 and will pass a law that will make social media leaders personally liable for hate speech on their platforms.

At the same time, the French parliament last week passed a bill banning social media for minors under 15. Portugal is preparing to do the same, after a bill was submitted to Parliament to ban their use by children under 16.
