A farmers' protest in Greece has turned into a real clash between them and security forces, who attempted to stop the protesters from blocking national roads.

The Pathe highway near Platykambos is currently closed in both directions, with tractors and farmers protesting on foot, demanding the immediate payment of compensation and money that, they claim, has been delayed for months.

Tensions and clashes were recorded at the Nikaias blockade and on the old Larissa-Volos national road, outside Platykambos, where farmers had lined up their tractors, blocking the road.

More specifically, police forces prevented them from moving towards the national highway, closing the crossing with a patrol car.

This action caused strong reactions, with a group of farmers gathered around the vehicle, shaking and hitting it, resulting in the windshield being broken while the police driver was inside.

Riot police and OPKE forces rushed to the scene, creating a barrier to prevent protesters from approaching the national highway.

As a result of the clashes, two people were transferred to the University Hospital of Larissa.

One of them, according to onlarissa.gr, is a well-known union farmer who fell on the road and received first aid from rescue teams.

The atmosphere remained tense a little later, as law enforcement used tear gas and other substances to disperse the protesters.
