Israel has carried out airstrikes on dozens of targets in southern Lebanon over the past day. The country's military said more than 70 Hezbollah sites were targeted, including rocket launchers and buildings used by the Iran-backed group.
The Israel Defense Forces also said it killed several Hezbollah operatives in parts of southern Lebanon where troops are operating. The IDF's renewed offensive in Lebanon began after Hezbollah launched rockets and drones into Israel on March 2, shortly after the start of the war with Iran.
Hezbollah wanted to avenge the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader. The hostilities date back decades, with Hezbollah forming in the 1980s to fight Israel's occupation of Lebanon at the time.
In the current conflict, Israel has invaded southern Lebanon to create a "buffer zone," after its rockets forced many people in northern Israel to flee their homes.
