Iranian authorities have hanged 29-year-old Erfan Shakurzadeh, an aerospace engineering student, accused of spying for the American CIA and the Israeli Mossad secret service.
According to Iranian state media, Shakurzadeh was found guilty of stealing secret satellite information from the scientific organization where he worked and transmitting it to foreign intelligence services.
The Iranian regime claims that the student, who was pursuing postgraduate studies at the University of Science and Technology in Tehran and was considered among the most talented of his generation, had passed information on satellite activities to foreign agencies.
According to the Human Rights Organization in Iran, Shakurzadeh was arrested in February last year and forced to sign a confession.
Shortly before the execution, the student reportedly wrote a message declaring that the charges against him were fabricated, the human rights organization reported.
The organization added that Shakurzadeh spent nine months in solitary confinement, during which he was subjected to "severe physical and psychological torture."
He is the fifth person to be executed by Iranian authorities since the start of the war in February, according to human rights monitoring organizations.
