Lithuania comes to the aid of the US, offers to deploy troops to the Strait of

Lithuania has made a significant proposal to participate militarily in international operations in the Strait of Hormuz, thus joining the efforts of Western allies to ensure the safety of maritime navigation in one of the world's most strategic routes.

Lithuania's State Defense Council, chaired by President Gitanas Nausėda, approved the proposal to submit to parliament, according to which the country could send up to 40 soldiers and support personnel.

According to national broadcaster LRT, the decision envisages the deployment of "Lithuanian military capabilities" to participate alongside allies in international maritime security operations, aimed at ensuring free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

This proposal comes at a tense geopolitical moment, as the United Kingdom and France are preparing a major meeting with more than 40 defense ministers from allied countries to discuss concrete plans to protect maritime transport in this key area for global oil exports.

Lithuania, as a member of NATO and the European Union, has gradually increased its participation in international missions, considering this as an important contribution to the collective security of the alliance. The proposal is now expected to go through the parliamentary procedure for final approval.
