The "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center (QSUT) has removed from its official website the list of medical equipment that was requested in the form of donations, after its publication was accompanied by controversy and strong reactions.
The QSUT scandal is related to the hospital's request for donations from citizens to purchase equipment (such as defibrillators), at a time when the government spent around 4.2 million euros on a concert.
The list, published several months ago on the QSUT donation platform, included equipment such as respirators, laryngoscopes, defibrillators, patient monitors for invasive measurements, electrocautery and electric syringes. The document was also used by protesters as an argument to criticize the lack of investment in the health system.
After the public debate, the page where the list was published is no longer accessible.
Regarding this issue, the Deputy Chairman of the Health Commission, Eduart Shalsi, reacted, explaining that publishing equipment needs on the donation platform is a standard procedure, provided for by law and aimed at guaranteeing transparency in the administration of public assets.
According to Shalsi, the list was published in February and, in the meantime, all the required equipment has been provided.
"It is a regular procedure. The announcement was made in February and as we speak today, all those needs have been met. The equipment can be procured or, if offered as a donation, removed from the list. The debate should focus on improving the health system," Shalsi declared.
He emphasized that the necessary equipment for the QSUT can be provided through public procurement procedures or through donations. In case a piece of equipment is offered as a donation, it is automatically removed from the list of needs, reflecting the updated situation.
