The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted the "New York Declaration," a document that sets out irreversible steps toward a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The resolution passed with 142 votes in favor, 10 against, and 12 abstentions, reflecting broad international support.
Countries such as Russia, China, the United Kingdom and France voted in favor. The United States, Israel, Hungary, Argentina and several small Pacific countries voted against. While Albania joined the abstentionist camp, avoiding a clear position. This stance is seen as a diplomatic maneuver to avoid straining relations with either the United States, which voted against, or the European Union, which supported the resolution.

The document calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, a prisoner exchange, an Israeli withdrawal, and the guarantee of humanitarian aid. It reaffirms the reunification of Gaza and the West Bank under a single Palestinian administration, led by the Palestinian Authority according to the principle of "one state, one government, one law, one weapon."
The resolution emphasizes the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, as well as the possibility of an international mission to protect civilians. But in Tirana, the diplomatic silence accompanied by abstention raises the question again: is Albania playing with two doors to preserve the "special relationship" with the US and the European path at the same time?
