The family of Skerdilajd Konomi, the judge murdered on September 9, 2011 in the city of Vlora, are asking institutions to solve the crime. The request comes for the 14th consecutive year after the perpetrators have not been found.
After SPAK declared its lack of jurisdiction and transferred the investigation into the macabre murder of the Vlora judge to the local prosecution, which delegated it to the Fier Prosecution, this prosecution has also suspended the investigation.
In order to find the perpetrators involved in the remote-controlled assassination of Judge Skerdilajd Konomi, who was killed at the age of 33, his family appeals for the immediate reopening of the file for which they request public transparency as well as the reasons why the case remains unresolved.
The family also requests the involvement of international expertise for impartial investigations as well as the return of investigations by SPAK. In an e-mail sent to SPAK, justice institutions and Top Channel, the family of Skerdilajd Konomi expresses concern and indignation over the unsolved murder of their relative, an assassination that they consider a criminal act that represents not only a blow to an individual, but also to the justice system.
The family writes that the memory of Judge Konomi cannot remain just another anniversary and that it is impossible to claim the construction of a new justice system if the crimes against its representatives remain unsolved.
" The SPAK institution was established with the aim of investigating precisely cases where crime, corruption, unjust profiteering and influence over justice have coexisted to the detriment of citizens and society. If SPAK does not deal with issues like this, then why does it exist? We ask SPAK, as the main institution in the fight against organized crime, to return this file to its priority. We also call on the General Prosecutor's Office, the Police, the KLP and the KLGJ to cooperate closely for an in-depth investigation ," they say.
The family says they are making this appeal after a long wait and fear.
" Today, after 14 years of waiting, fear and silence, we as family members have only one question for you. Will Albanian justice ever dare to face the truth, no matter how bitter or dangerous it may be? ", it further states.
Stressing that the assassination was planned, the family of the murdered judge says that the silence that followed from state structures has been equally shocking and inexplicable. Skerdilajdi, the family declares, was not involved in any corruption case.
" He was killed because he had the courage to demand his right, his inherited family properties, which he acquired through a regular judicial process ," they say.
The family appeals for the protection of judges and prosecutors who act honestly. /Top Channel
