Former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, has reacted regarding the judicial process for the Gërdec tragedy, clarifying that the order he gave had nothing to do with the dismantling of weapons.
According to him, in his capacity as minister, he only issued an order for the transfer of ammunition from the Armed Forces to the relevant company, while further procedures were specified in the contract.
Mediu emphasized that if the company had fully respected the terms of the contract, the tragic explosion in Gerdec would not have occurred.
"The minister's orders were of an individual administrative nature and a ministerial order did not become a law or a DCM."
There is no legal gap for the handling of ammunition in the Armed Forces, this was also ascertained by the prosecution experts. The minister's act is not a dismantling order, I have given an order for the transfer of ammunition from the Army to MEKO.
"The contract then provides for the details. If what was included in the contract had been implemented, there would not have been an explosion and a situation like what happened," Mediu said.
