Why is Albania mentioned in this story?
As the US and Venezuela have escalated tensions between them, Albania has suddenly been mentioned.
Independent journalist Arturo Dominguez, in an article in " The Antagonist Magazine ", focused on the Albanian mafia and its role in Venezuela or Ecuador.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during a visit to Ecuador, declared two local gangs as terrorist organizations and promised $20 million in security assistance, including drones for the Ecuadorian navy. In return, the US signaled its willingness to reopen a military base in the country if invited.
But this development has been followed by strong accusations from Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He stated that Ecuador and the Albanian mafia were behind a failed terrorist plot in Venezuela that involved 38 arrested mercenaries.
"The Albanian mafia that rules Ecuador sent its mercenaries to plant bombs in Venezuela. We caught them and seized three of their phones," Maduro said on state television in May.
According to Arturo Dominguez's report, this is not just a propaganda episode. The Albanian mafia has been repeatedly mentioned by regional leaders as a powerful actor in drug trafficking and mercenary operations. Its mention in such a context puts Albania in the international spotlight for the wrong reasons.
Ecuador is seen as the main gateway for cocaine in Latin America, while its links to traffickers and foreign groups, including Albanian networks, raise doubts about the influence these organizations have on domestic politics.
Dominguez points out that while the US turns a blind eye to corruption and cartel ties in Ecuador, it continues to hit Venezuela with accusations of drug trafficking and plans for intervention. This double standard, he says, is linked to the vast economic and strategic interests of the US in Venezuela's natural resources, from oil to lithium and fresh water.

Despite US intelligence stating that Maduro does not have control over the Tren de Aragua (TdA) criminal group, as the White House suggests, and leaving aside the fact that Maduro has led many campaigns against the TdA using tactics similar to El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele, the US administration continues to push disinformation that only casts doubt on every accusation made against Venezuela over more than two decades.

Sekretari i Shtetit, Marco Rubio, vizitoi së fundmi Ekuadorin për të finalizuar disa marrëveshje diplomatike. Gjatë vizitës, ai shpalli dy banda ekuadoriane si organizata terroriste dhe i dha Ekuadorit 20 milionë dollarë për sigurinë, pjesërisht për blerjen e dronëve për Marinën ekuadoriane. Financimi synon ndihmën në luftën kundër karteleve. Në këmbim, po diskutohet rihapja e një baze ushtarake amerikane në vend, “nëse ftohen”.

Megjithatë, zyrtarë të lartë të qeverisë ekuadoriane dhe bizneset e tyre janë lidhur me trafikun e drogës, duke nxjerrë në pah shumë konflikte interesi. Duhet gjithashtu theksuar se Ekuadori shpesh përmendet si porta e trafikut të drogës në Amerikën Latine për shkak se kufizohet me dy prodhuesit më të mëdhenj të kokainës, Perunë dhe Kolumbinë.
Të punosh me një qeveri që mbyll sytë ndaj karteleve dhe mafias shqiptare është dyfytyrësi, dhe kjo dyfytyrësi, e përmendur nga liderë latinë si Maduro, nuk duhet të vijë si surprizë.
Pak pasi Erik Prince vizitoi Ekuadorin këtë vit për t’i ofruar presidentit Daniel Noboa trajnim sigurie për policinë dhe ushtrinë, 38 persona u arrestuan në Venezuelë në një komplot të dyshuar terrorist. Maduro deklaroi në televizionin shtetëror se një tentativë shpërthimi (e parandaluar nga një qytetar) ishte e lidhur me Ekuadorin dhe mafian shqiptare.
Maduro deklaroi: “Nëse Erik Prince është atje, atëherë është edhe perandoria amerikane.”
“Tani, 38 mercenarë të rinj janë arrestuar. Mafia shqiptare që sundon Ekuadorin dërgoi disa nga mercenarët e saj të trajnuar për të vendosur bomba në Venezuelë. I kemi kapur. Tre prej telefonave të tyre janë sekuestruar”, tha Maduro në maj.
How the US will confront its own deceptions is highlighted by the administration’s disregard for the attack on a suspected drug boat that killed 11 people. When Rubio was asked about the duplicity in cooperating with the Ecuadorian government, which has arguably done less than Maduro in Venezuela and Petro in Colombia to combat drug trafficking, rather than with Venezuela, he did not take the question well.
Now the question arises: why is the US willing to help Ecuador crack down on cartels, but not a country like Venezuela? While justifying the invasion of a country that is not linked by the DEA to trafficking operations, the US is supporting a country with a serious smuggling problem, empowered by the president's monopoly on bananas and the shipping industry, where drugs are often found in its cargo.
Noboa has failed to address corruption in his government and in his businesses, thus strengthening the drug trade, while the US has chosen to support him.
Many say the reason is oil, and that is largely true. But there is also gold, lithium, and other resources, including clean water, that the US is targeting. War criminals like Erik Prince don’t call Ecuador “El Dorado” and US officials don’t describe it as “our backyard” for nothing. US corporations stand to gain trillions of dollars if the US invades Venezuela, overthrows its government, and installs a pro-US regime.
As it prepares to prop up a right-wing, corrupt government in Latin America, as it has historically done, the US has deployed 10 F-35 fighter jets to Puerto Rico for “counternarcotics operations.” Why these planes are needed for drug boats makes no sense. One could easily conclude that they are there to support an invasion of Venezuela, as this administration’s Latinophobic rhetoric continues to grow and become more overt. / Pamphlet
