Journalist Klodiana Lala has told of the investigations into the Aruba file, which includes well-known names in the criminal and business world in Albania.
Lala said that the investigation launched 5 years ago has led to the arrests of individuals and the seizure of properties and bank accounts worth a significant amount, estimated at 500 million euros.
"It is a 2021 investigation, which began on the basis of a seizure that SPAK made of a property in the heart of Tirana, next to Air Albania, a property of Eldi Dizdari, a controversial character in the underworld. He is wanted by Italy, considered one of the most important in drug trafficking. There was discussion that this property should be developed and there have been a series of transfers until it ended up in the hands of Artur Shehu.
SPAK had seized the property, the developers of the family property of Miri i Xhike, make a request to SPAK and request information on whether or not Artur Shehu was under investigation. From this moment, an investigation begins, several criminal offenses related to Artur Shehu are added. He had been away from the country for years. There have been many discussions and accusations in relation to him, for property embezzlement, trafficking, but in Albania there had been no criminal investigation or conviction.
What happens? It seems that the investigations were not yielding results, as there was no data. When a letter arrives from Spain, it turns out that the Spaniards, the Belgians, who were investigating a criminal clan of the Osmani brothers, had intercepted a meeting on the island of Aruba, and Artur Shehu and several criminal figures were there, there is also talk of an unidentified high-ranking official.
"The file says that there was a high-ranking official and he was wiretapped. Only people from the underworld are identified in the file. Artur Shehu, Adrian Rama, Elton Memeti and so on, but it does not appear that the official has been exposed," Lala said on the show "The Unexposed."
