Recently released footage from private cameras around the world has raised concerns about their security.
Guest on Dita Jonë, journalist Aida Topalli emphasized that many families are getting cameras from unsafe online sites, in countries where their origin is unknown, due to their low cost and ease of installation, without a security protocol.
"Every security camera that is installed in a home is purchased from a specific company and this company is responsible. The moment a picture is released from these security cameras, the first place the customer has the right to go should be the company. Recently, many families are purchasing them from online and unsafe sites, in places where their origin is unknown, they have low costs and are easily installed, but when there is no security protocol," Topalli said.
According to her, this is also done by malicious people with the aim of profiting through blackmail.
"It happens that there may be and have been malicious people who make and sell these cameras with clear intent. It doesn't matter who the client is, it can be a public figure or a simple person. These cameras are accessible by people who we don't know what their purpose is. We are in a time where, due to this uncertainty and massification, there is access to the personal lives of public and non-public people, even to their privacy. We don't know if we are dealing with blackmail for this video, or publishing it in Telegram and WhatsApp groups that have become a serious problem, but monetary benefits are one of the main conditions or they are blackmailing with the aim of profit or damaging their image," said the journalist.
The journalist indicated that an investigation has also been launched in Albania after there are characters who have fallen prey to these videos through certain girls who invite them, film them, and blackmail them.
"Certain girls attract characters and there is an investigation into this. By taking second-hand businessmen, sending them to girls who invite these characters, filming them and then blackmailing them," the journalist emphasized.
