The Special Court of Appeals rejected former President Ilir Meta's request for release from prison.
Meanwhile, the Special Prosecution Office has submitted to the court the file against former President Ilir Meta and his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi, asking the court to try them on charges of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets.
Lawyer Romeo Kara, in an interview with "Edicioni i Fundit", stated that it was the right decision. According to him, former President Meta will try to damage the case if he is acquitted.
"It was the right decision. Meta could destroy the evidence. If he is released, he will try to damage the case," Kara said.
During the interview, lawyer Kara said that Meta faces many accusations and that he will be punished for the CEZ-DIA affair and lobbying.
"They have enriched themselves while Albania was being destroyed. And for me, they have equated governance with robbery and all their activities should be investigated," he said.
Among other things, the lawyer called for SPAK to move forward with the case and, in his opinion, for deserved justice to be served.
