Journalist Almer Toska has publicly announced that he has been threatened after publishing an investigation into the activities of businessman Lul Morina, known for his suspected past in drug trafficking and women trafficking in the 1990s.
In his status, Toska writes that Morina has sent insulting and threatening messages to his family, trying to intimidate them. " This action clearly shows that he has no argument against the facts, but is trying to silence the truth with threats ," the journalist says.
Toska emphasizes that threats will not stop him from his work and calls on the State Police and SPAK not to remain silent in the face of an individual with a criminal past. " Silence is cooperation; delay in action is protection ," he writes, demanding an immediate reaction from the institutions.
The case of Morina, who went from being a trafficker to a "successful businessman", according to Toska, is the clearest proof of the way organized crime seeks to intimidate anyone who publishes the truth.
Full status of journalist Almer Toska on FB:
After the publication of the investigative article on businessman Lul Morina, which documented his criminal past as a woman and drug trafficker, his connections to the current government, and the acquisition of construction permits thanks to political support from Belinda Balluku, I have been openly threatened. Morina has sent me insulting messages to my family and has used blackmail language to intimidate me.
This action clearly shows that Morina has no argument against the published facts, but is trying to silence the truth with threats. He acts as he has always done, with violence and arrogance, believing that his connections with power protect him from the law. But this is no longer a personal issue between me and him, it is a public issue that affects the entire Albanian society.
The State Police and SPAK cannot remain silent. If open threats from a person with a criminal past are not enough to prompt action by law enforcement agencies, then this country is hostage to the power mafia and traffickers who have transformed into new oligarchs. The silence of the police means cooperation, the delay in action means protection, the lack of investigation means state capture.
Lul Morina is a clear example of how organized crime has integrated into politics and the economy. From a drug trafficker in the 1990s, he has now become a "successful businessman," buying votes for power and obtaining building permits in exchange for his services. And today, he dares to openly threaten journalists and citizens just because they publish the truth.
I say it clearly: threats do not scare me and will not stop me. On the contrary, they are living proof that my writing has struck at the heart of the truth. This is the moment when the Police, the Prosecution and SPAK must show whether they are in the service of citizens or in the service of traffickers connected to power.
Albania cannot continue to be a country where traffickers become builders, where vote buyers become government partners, and where threat makers are treated as untouchable. Lul Morina must be investigated, punished, and stopped before his threat becomes a reality for anyone else who dares to speak the truth.
The law cannot be a weapon in the hands of those in power, the law must be the protection of citizens. And if the Police and SPAK remain silent today, tomorrow no one will have faith in the state.
