Journalist Klodiana Lala has commented on the appointment of the new director of the State Police, Skënder Hita, emphasizing that his name had long been rumored as the most potential candidate for this position. According to her, the new director will need a period of 1 to 3 months to understand the real situation in the institution and to analyze the challenges inherited from his predecessor, Proda.
Lala told the show "This Week" on News24, hosted by journalist Nisida Tufa, that the State Police has been under extraordinary pressure, citing undeserved promotions and a climate of fear within the police ranks.
She said that the new director must build a credible team to lead key sectors, such as operations and cybercrime. Another challenge, according to Lala, remains ensuring fair and legal processes, given that competitions have often been described as fictitious.
The journalist also stressed the need for a depoliticized police force, where employees have authority and do not behave abusively in the field. She suggested equipping officers with body cameras and creating special structures, also taking into account cases where various operations have been debunked. In conclusion, Lala stressed that Skënder Hita must provide strong legal guarantees and be presented to the public by a figure with integrity, including in confrontations with the media.
"I said it earlier, it seems he was referring to sources, that Mr. Skënder Hita was the most potential name to be elected director of the State Police. Mr. Hita will need 1-3 months to see how the last struggle is. His predecessor was Mr. Proda. I have spoken about this character, he is gone. The police were under extraordinary pressure. There were undeserved promotions, there was fear in the police. They were afraid to have a friendly coffee with someone. He will have to find trusted names to lead a number of sectors.
"Operation, cybercrime. Mr. Hita must receive legal guarantees, since the competitions are fictitious. He will have to make a police officer away from politics. He needs legal guarantees. Real competitions must be held, not fictitious ones, to make legal changes. Police officers must be given authority, not to behave like street thugs. They will have to be equipped with body cameras, they will have to have a special structure for them, since there have been incidents from the prosecution that many operations have been debunked. There are many challenges ahead. He will have to receive legal guarantees and be presented by officials with integrity, even in confrontations with the media. Ilir Proda criminalized the police ," she said.
