The fires in the Fushë-Arrëz area have reached large proportions as they have been burning forest and vegetation for hours, even approaching residential areas in one of the fires.
Artmir Doda, director of the Forest Service in Fushë Arrëz, provided an overview of the situation this afternoon, while he was on the ground leading the action together with firefighters and emergency services to extinguish the flames.
He appealed for help from residents and the Army, as the flames are spreading rapidly, especially in the village of Krjezi, where even homes are at risk. He also stressed that the fire is suspected to be intentional.
"Currently we have 3 fire sources, in Kulumri, in the Blerim Administrative Unit and 40 minutes ago in the Kryeziu area a new fire source, the Qafë malit unit, very active and dangerous. Just an hour from the fire, at least 2 hectares of black pine have been burned. Not only that, but it also poses a danger to the residents of the village of Kryeziu, because the wind favors the conditions for the spread of the fire, towards houses and apartments," he said.
Regarding the causes of the fire and the appeal, Doda stated that it is believed that the fire was intentional.
"The State Police are here, investigating, but it is thought to be an intentional fire. All residents of the area and the Army should come to our aid to neutralize the fire and prevent loss of life ," he said.
Meanwhile, Dodë Pepa, head of Civil Emergencies in the Fushe Arrëz municipality, said that in the tourist village of Kryezi, the area called Podinat remains problematic, where the flames were advancing, aided by the wind.
"It appeared an hour ago and we are here with forces to extinguish it, as we were in another concentrated hearth where we have been fighting for days. As you can see, the situation is out of control, because intervention from the ground is difficult. We hope that help will come from the air to save this place, because the situation is very critical," Pepa stressed.
