Albania did not go further than a 1-1 draw away to Latvia, in the fourth qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup. With the result obtained today, unfortunately we can say that our national team has ended its hopes of taking second place in the group.
In the 29th minute, the score was unblocked, Albania took the lead. Arbër Hoxha crossed to the wing and after a duel between Manaj, the goalkeeper and the Latvian defender, the ball hit the latter, Antonijs Kernomordijs, and ended up in the net. UEFA on its official website called it an own goal and not a goal by Manaj.
The first minutes were much better for the Rossoneri, but the home team had a golden chance to take the lead first. After 4 matches, Albania continues to hold second place with 5 points, while Serbia ranks third with 4 points, but has two games less than the Rossoneri. First place is held by England with 9 points, while Latvia is in fourth place with 4 points and Andorra closes with 0 points.
Albania will play its next match on September 9 at "Air Albania" against Latvia.
