Scandal in England. Former Premier League referee David Kute has been charged with producing an indecent image of a minor. The BBC reported that a former match referee, now 43, was charged following an investigation by Nottinghamshire Police. Police said the charge relates to a video recovered by officers last February.
Kute, originally from Collingham, was formally charged on August 12 and will appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday (tomorrow) on the charge. He was suspended by the PGMOL refereeing organisation in December 2024 following an investigation into a video in which he allegedly made derogatory comments about Liverpool and the club's former manager, Jurgen Klopp. The Football Association (FA) also imposed an eight-week ban the following August for the same comments.
However, according to the British broadcaster, police said that former referee Kute has not been arrested, but is currently on probation and released on bail. They also clarified that the charge of producing an indecent photograph covers acts such as downloading, sharing and storing material relating to a minor.
