Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team are preparing for their challenge in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup against one of the biggest surprises of the tournament, Cape Verde.

Footage shared on social media shows Messi handing over his personal belongings to security personnel before waiting on the side of the runway during the check.
The Argentine striker was seen smiling, visibly surprised and at the same time amused by the unusual procedure.
A few minutes later, Messi retrieved his belongings, after a security official carefully arranged them in a suitcase before handing them over.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Argentine team had already begun the queue control process.
These added measures are part of the strict security protocols put in place for the 2026 World Cup.
Due to concerns over potential security threats, all passengers arriving in host cities in the United States are subject to screening immediately upon landing.
Authorities emphasize that all teams participating in the tournament have gone through the same procedures during matches in the USA, while Argentina has just faced this process in Miami. Security measures remain an important element of the organization of the tournament, raising the discussion whether direct controls on the track are the most appropriate way to manage the safety of teams and passengers.
