The 2026 World Cup, which kicks off next week in the United States, Canada and Mexico, will also set a new record in terms of financial rewards. FIFA has approved a fund of $871 million for participating national teams, a 15% increase compared to the initial fund of $727 million approved at the FIFA Council meeting in Doha in December.
In addition to this amount, the international federation has also provided special bonuses for qualification and preparations before the tournament, further increasing financial support for participating teams.
According to the distribution scheme published by FIFA, each of the 48 qualified national teams will receive $10 million as a participation bonus. Meanwhile, in the run-up to the tournament, each team will receive an additional $2.5 million. FIFA has also earmarked another $16 million in additional contributions to cover delegation expenses and allocations related to ticket sales.
Even teams that fail to advance past the group stage will receive substantial rewards. Teams ranked 33rd to 48th will each receive $9 million. National teams eliminated in the round of 32 will receive $11 million, while those eliminated in the round of 16 will receive $19 million.
The prizes increase significantly for teams that reach the final stages of the competition. The national team that ranks fourth will receive $27 million, while third place will be rewarded with $29 million.
The World Cup finalist will collect $33 million, while the world champion, in addition to lifting the most prestigious trophy in international football, will also receive a reward of $50 million.
