Kosovo reacted in the best possible way after the heavy defeat to Switzerland in Basel, achieving a spectacular 2:0 victory against Sweden, a representative full of Premier League stars. In the match played at the packed “Fadil Vokrri” stadium in Pristina, the “Dardans” showed character and quality, returning strongly to the race for qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Sweden, considered favorites due to big names such as Viktor Gyokeres (Arsenal), Anthony Elanga (Newcastle) and Alexander Isak (Liverpool), were put under pressure by the well-organized strategy of coach Franco Foda.
Kosovo dominated the first half, scoring two goals to earn the three big points, marking one of the most important victories in their history. Midfielder Elvis Rexhbeçaj opened the scoring in the 26th minute after a quick counterattack. On his second attempt, he beat the Swedish goalkeeper with a precise shot, sending the fans into raptures.
Meanwhile, Kosovo's undisputed leader, Vedat Muriqi, sealed the victory in the 42nd minute with a beautiful goal, after an excellent assist from Albion Rrahmani.
The first half saw more chances from both teams, but Kosovo's goalkeeper and defense led by Lumbardh Dellova and Fidan Aliti remained invincible. On the other hand, Sweden took several chances, but failed to convert them.
In the second half, Sweden took the initiative, especially after the activation of Alexander Isak, the biggest summer transfer in European football. However, Kosovo defended well and took advantage of the counterattacks. Florent Muslija missed a golden chance in the 89th minute, but the score remained 2:0 until the end.
This victory puts Kosovo in second place in the group, behind Switzerland and ahead of Sweden and Slovenia, keeping alive the dream of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Kosovo will face Slovenia on October 10 at the "Fadil Vokrri" stadium, aiming to continue this positive momentum.
