Eritrea is officially excluded from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. And although there were some rumors about whether they would have the opportunity to play, with FIFA's final punishment everything has been extinguished.
Eritrea did not play a single match during this qualifying campaign. The government forced the team not to travel. Eritrea is suffering from a dictatorship, while the fear of the heads of state was that the footballers would seek asylum in other countries during transfers.
Congo had a similar case, after being punished by FIFA for government interference in the federation. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, was suspended in 2023, but was reinstated after fulfilling the conditions.
Another representative that remains officially excluded is Russia. This all came about after the start of the war with Ukraine.
