A Spaniard and a well-known La Liga name top the list of spending in the football transfer market. This ranking does not include coaches like Ancelotti or Klopp, but some of the most famous bench players are not missing.

Guardiola, the spending king

Pep Guardiola has entered the history of the transfer market in 2025 as the first coach to exceed the figure of 2 billion euros invested in player purchases during his career. The Manchester City coach has 17 seasons in the elite, where he counts 3 Champions League titles and a dozen national championships won.

He began his coaching career at Barcelona, where the most expensive signing was Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2009 for 70 million euros, plus Samuel Eto'o. In his adventure at Bayern Munich, spending was more moderate, with a record of 40 million for Arturo Vidal and Mario Götze.

Things changed at Manchester City, where over 1.2 billion euros have been invested in his team since the 2016-2017 season. The most expensive transfer? Jack Grealish for 117 million euros from Aston Villa in the 2021-2022 season. Guardiola is also known for his dizzying investments in defenders: Stones, Laporte, Ake, Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker have cost a combined 400 million euros.

Simeone, 700 million less

After Guardiola comes Diego Pablo Simeone with 1.31 billion euros spent at Atletico Madrid since 2011. The Argentine has always had a sustainable budget, and last season he was the coach who spent the most in Spain (almost 250 million euros). The most expensive purchase? Joao Felix for 127 million, an investment that did not yield the expected results.

Three more surprises; Allegri, Tuchel and Conte

Third on the list is Massimiliano Allegri with 1.2 billion euros spent, mainly on Juventus and Milan. His most expensive transfer was Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018 for 117 million euros (in total), but he never managed to win the Champions League.

In fourth place is Thomas Tuchel with 1.19 billion euros. The German has managed Bayern, Chelsea, PSG and Borussia Dortmund, winning a Champions League with the London Blues. His biggest purchase was Kylian Mbappe for 180 million euros to PSG in 2018.

The list closes with Antonio Conte, current Serie A champion with Napoli, with 1.16 billion euros invested during his career. Juventus, Chelsea, Inter and Tottenham have trusted him with their success, while the Italian coach in question has won 6 championships. The most expensive player he has acquired is Alvaro Morata for 80 million euros to Chelsea.
