Chelsea have sacked manager Liam Rosengard, just four months after taking charge. The decision came after a 3-0 defeat to Brighton at a time when the team's form has been in decline.
Rosenior took over as manager of the Londoners on 6 January 2026, following the sudden departure of Enco Maresca on the first day of the year. The 41-year-old, who arrived from Strasbourg, signed a long-term contract of five and a half years, with the option of a further season. However, he left after just 23 games in charge.
The club's decision is directly related to recent results. Chelsea have recorded five consecutive defeats in the championship, falling out of the Champions League qualification zone and also jeopardizing their participation in European competitions.
In an official statement, club leaders emphasized that the decision was not easy:
" This has not been a decision the club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the required standards, with much still to be played for this season ."
The club also announced that Calcum McFarlane will take over as interim manager:
" Calcum McFarlane will take charge of the team as interim manager until the end of the season with the support of the club's existing staff as we strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup ."
