Astronomers have discovered an unusual space object that accompanies Earth: it is an asteroid, with a diameter of about 19 meters, titled 2025 PN7, which has been near Earth for about 60 years and is expected to remain for at least another half century.
The asteroid has entered a resonance with Earth's orbit, creating the illusion that it is in orbit around the planet, even though it is technically not a satellite.
According to astrophysicists, such objects are natural and constitute an asteroid belt in the area where the Earth-Moon system orbits the Sun.
The discovery was published in the American Astronomical Society's journal Research Notes, based on results from the Pan-STARRS Observatory in Hawaii.
