A senior Atlanta Police officer in the US has been implicated in an investigation following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a federal judge , an event that has attracted the attention of the American media and institutions overseeing the justice system.
According to Bloomberg Law reports, at the center of the case is Kelley Collier, the deputy chief of the Atlanta Police, who is alleged to have had an affair with federal judge Eleanor Ross.
The Committee on Judicial Conduct and Competence of the Judicial Conference of the United States has confirmed that it has received a formal complaint regarding the case and is reviewing the allegations raised.
The documentation submitted states that meetings between the two officials allegedly took place in the judge's office during official working hours. Also, according to the complaint, several court employees reported hearing noises that raised suspicions of inappropriate behavior within the institution's premises.
After the information was released, Atlanta Police announced that it had launched an internal investigation to determine whether the person named in the committee documents is an employee of the department and whether there were any violations of professional or ethical standards.
Collier currently holds the position of commander of the Community Services Division at the Atlanta Police Department, writes the NY Post.
Meanwhile, according to reports, Judge Eleanor Ross has received a private reprimand regarding the matter.
Ross serves on the Federal Court for the Northern District of Georgia and was appointed to the position by former US President Barack Obama, while her confirmation by the US Senate took place in 2014.
The relevant investigations and procedures are ongoing, while the authorities are expected to clarify whether the allegations constitute a violation of the professional and ethical rules of the relevant institutions.
