In a sworn testimony in the Musk v. Altman lawsuit, former OpenAI CEO Mira Murati stated that the company's CEO, Sam Altman , was not always honest in internal communications and that this behavior affected the functioning of the organization.
According to her, Altman provided information different from that communicated by other executives and the legal team, particularly regarding the review processes for new artificial intelligence models.
In testimony reported by international media, Murat is quoted as saying:
“No,” she said when asked if Altman had been accurate in his statements about an internal matter. She also added that she had noticed “significant communication inconsistencies” within management, describing the situation as a “very difficult and chaotic environment.”
Murati also spoke about the turbulent period of 2023, when Altman was temporarily fired and then reinstated. According to her, the company was in a critical situation: "catastrophic risk of the company's dissolution."
During that period, she briefly served as interim CEO, before leadership passed first to Emmett Shear and then back to Altman.
Later, Murati left OpenAI and founded her own artificial intelligence company, Thinking Machines Lab.
The legal process between Elon Musk and Sam Altman continues to shed light on the tensions and internal conflicts at one of the most important artificial intelligence companies in the world, while Murati's testimony adds another dimension to the debate over OpenAI's transparency and governance.
