Singer Jonida Maliqi has spoken again about the trial against her ex-husband, Gent Prizreni. The Tirana Court in November 2024 ruled in favor of the singer, after her lawsuit that her ex-husband had not fulfilled his obligations to his son. Regarding the case, Maliqi has shown the difficulties, as she confesses that she was forced to make it public to protect her son. The singer has stated that she does not regret the path she chose, and would make it public again if there was injustice.
What would you never tolerate about your son?
Jonida Maliqi: I would never allow him to be violated, bullied, psychologically killed, and I would never want anything bad to happen to him. I would do everything I could to protect him from all harm.
How difficult is it for a mother to defend her child's rights when faced with injustice?
Jonida Maliqi: A mother can fight against windmills. Moreover, as a public figure, I reached a point where I didn't have to reach it but I was forced to make it public in order to have justice. I have no regrets, I had to defend myself and my son, I may have to do it again.
Singer Jonida Maliqi sued her ex-husband, Gent Prizren, for not paying child support for their son, who needs special care due to his health condition. In her request, the singer alleged that her ex-husband had not paid the 2,000 euros per month for their son's 'pension', as they had agreed.
Another point where the parties clash is the apartment where the singer lives, together with her son, Dani. The singer claims that the apartment is a "marital apartment", but the businessman has not respected the agreement to buy a new apartment for her, but also for her son. The lawsuit states that when the divorce occurred, the ex-husband was the owner or co-owner of many assets, especially real estate, located in many locations in Albania, which could be valued at 3-4 million euros. In the end, the court decided that the ex-husband should pay the obligations according to the agreement determined by the divorce.
