Raissa Bellini, 37, has shed light on the reality of luxury yacht travel, where many businesspeople and celebrities believe that “what happens on tour, stays on tour.” She spent five years working on a luxury yacht that visited exclusive destinations in the Mediterranean, including Ibiza and Greece, and she says that elegant travel doesn’t necessarily mean elegant behavior.
"At sea, some men feel that the rules don't apply. It's like they leave their real lives on shore. The wedding ring suddenly becomes a decoration," says Raissa, describing an unexpected aspect of life below decks.
She also shows that the confined spaces of yachts can lead to boundary-pushing: “When you’re in the middle of the ocean, you have nowhere to go. You can’t just leave. You’re on their boat. It changes the dynamic. In public, they’re serious and clean. But out there, some tried their luck… They would suddenly appear below where I was working. They would compliment me. They would stand very close. They would test the boundaries.”
Her attempts to politely confront these situations were not always easy, and there were times when she felt extremely embarrassed. However, Raissa is clear that this difficult chapter of her professional life is over and she will not face this type of challenge again in the future.
