Producers have released the first image of the artificial intelligence-generated version of actor Val Kilmer, bringing him back to the screen after his death in 2025.
Kilmer, who died at the age of 65 after a long battle with throat cancer, had previously agreed to star in the film "As Deep As The Grave," but his health condition prevented him from participating in the filming.
For this reason, the producers used AI technology to realize his role as a Catholic priest and spiritualist. The project was developed with the approval of the actor's family, including his children Mercedes and Jack, who contributed archival material to the creation of the digital image.
The decision has sparked mixed reactions from the public. Some see it as a way to respect the actor's wish to participate in the project, while others express concerns about using a person's image after death.
This isn't Kilmer's first use of technology. In the film "Top Gun: Maverick," his voice was recreated with artificial intelligence to enable his on-screen appearance.
