German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has urged Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to make further progress in the dialogue with Serbia, through a congratulatory letter on the occasion of the start of the new governing mandate.
In the message published by the Prime Minister's Office, Merz emphasizes that significant challenges lie ahead for Kurti and his cabinet.
"Challenging tasks lie ahead of you and your government. I am convinced that, with your experience, you will take the right and necessary decisions for the further Euro-Atlantic integration of Kosovo. This also includes further progress in the EU-mediated normalization dialogue with Serbia," the German Chancellor writes.
He also underlines that Germany will remain a strong supporter of Kosovo in this process, describing it as a reliable partner "at its side", while wishing Kurti success in his new mandate.
Merz's congratulatory letter:
Dear Mr. Prime Minister,
I heartily congratulate you on your re-election. I look forward to the opportunity to further deepen the close and friendly relations between our countries, together with you.
Challenging tasks lie ahead for you and your government. I am confident that, with your experience, you will make the right and necessary decisions for Kosovo's further Euro-Atlantic integration. This includes further progress in the EU-facilitated normalization dialogue with Serbia.
Be assured that Kosovo, in these tasks, has a strong and reliable partner at its side in Germany.
I wish you much luck and success in the continuation of your mandate.
With warm greetings
Friedrich Merz
Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany
